The Diversity of St. Patrick’s Day Clip Art
It’s now March 1, so St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner! All the Irish and Irish wannabes are out finding St. Patrick’s Day clip art images for their print graphics, Web sites, blogs, etc. Crafters and scrapbookers in particular like these images, because they immediately convey the feeling of the holiday in their creative projects.
Many of the St. Patrick’s Day images available on the Web are actually quite silly, which is strange considering that St.
Patrick’s Day is the anniversary of the real Saint Patrick’s death. In spite of that, St. Patrick’s Day images often feature goofy interpretations of classic St. Patrick’s Day and Irish
themes. These include leprechauns, Irish lads and lasses, the ever-popular shamrock, the walking stick known as a shillelagh (pronounced shill-lay-lee), and even green beer images. These images are immediately recognizable as symbols of this joyous holiday that U.S. citizens celebrate with great abandon, whether they’re Irish or not. That’s probably a tribute to the impact that Irish immigrants have made on this country.
